Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Wednesday, Jan. 31, is of outfielder Sterling Mack. Mack, who throws righty and hits lefty, will wear number 25 for Indiana in 2007.

Sterling Mack joins the Hoosiers after playing three years of varsity baseball for Lance Oubs at the Lovett School in Atlanta. Mack, a native of Powder Springs, Ga., also lettered in basketball for Lovett.

Mack helped Lovett win the 2006 AA state championship in his senior season, the fifth state championship in school history and the first since 1999. Mack was awarded second team all-area honors for Lovett and was also named to the East Cobb County All-Defensive Team. Additionally, he was a key piece of the 2005 squad that won a regional championship.

Mack is not the first college athlete in his family, as his father, Tommie, was a basketball player for Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. The son of Sandra and Tommie Mack was born on Nov. 25, 1987, and plans to major in political science at IU.
