    In the weeks leading up to the 2008 season, IUHoosiers.com will be introducing you to the newest members of the Indiana Baseball team. The newcomer profile for Friday, Feb. 1, is of freshman pitcher Anthony Agnew.

    Indianapolis native Anthony Agnew begins his first season of college baseball in 2008 after being named honorable mention Class 4A all-state in 2007. The left-handed pitcher helped Cathedral to the 2007 state championship.

    Agnew went 13-0 on the season with a 1.56 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings, as he gave up just 59 hits and 21 walks. The standout also shined at the plate with a .394 average, four home runs, 38 RBIs and 42 runs. Following his campaign, he was named Indianapolis Star All-North Player of the Year.

    Agnew came up big for Cathedral in the clutch, as he struck out eight batters and walked one, allowing four hits in seven innings, in the state championship game against Kokomo. Following the season, he played for the South squad in the North/South all-star game. He also helped Cathedral to a runner-up finish in the 2006 state championship game.

    Agnew has one brother, T.J, and one sister, Alison. The son of Thomas and Cynthia Agnew was born on Oct. 6, 1988, and plans to major in business at Indiana.
