Newcomer Profile - Matt Carr

In the weeks leading up to the 2008 season, IUHoosiers.com will be introducing you to the newest members of the Indiana Baseball team. The newcomer profile for Tuesday, Feb. 5, is of redshirt freshman pitcher Matt Carr.
Matt Carr is entering his first season for the Hoosiers after earning three letters at Indianapolis' Bishop Chatard High School. As a senior, Carr went 6-3 on the mound with three complete games and three saves, notching 55 strikeouts to only 11 walks while accruing a 1.74 ERA to garner All-City mention.
Carr was just as dangerous at the plate, as he hit .341 with six doubles, six triples, two home runs, 25 RBIs and 30 runs. Carr also was named All-City and Team MVP as a junior shortstop by hitting .413 with seven doubles, a triple, a home run and 11 stolen bases and he hit .437 in 2005.
The Indianapolis native was not only successful on the diamond, as he was named all-state as a junior in football when he set a school record for interceptions. He earned three letters in football for Bishop Chatard.
Carr has one sister, Gina, and one brother, Scott. The son of Gene and Raylene Carr was born on Jan. 5, 1988, and intends to major in sport marketing and management at Indiana.
