HOOSIERS DROP SEASON OPENER IN ARIZONA

Baseball team shutout by Kansas State, 8-0

Peoria, Ariz.- The Indiana men's baseball team opened its season in the College Sports Classic in Phoenix, Arizona, falling to Kansas State on a combined four-hitter. The Hoosiers (0-1) managed just four singles over nine innings while striking out 12 times.

Indiana kept the game close, as sophomore starter Chris Wilson (0-1) held the Wildcats to one run over 3.1 innings, including six strikeouts. But Kansas State scored twice in the fourth inning and then broke out for five runs in the bottom of the eighth off of senior left-hander Greg Schabel.

Indiana's only hits came from senior catcher Scott Anleitner, who had a pair of singles, sophomore Doug DeVore, and junior third baseman Frank O'Connell, who each had one hit. O'Connell's single came in his first career game at Indiana after two years at Indiana State.
