Spotlight on Aki Ulmer
After losing nine letterwinners from last season's squad, the Indiana baseball team welcomes 17 newcomers this season. In the coming weeks, we will feature each IU newcomer leading up to the team's Feb. 22 opener against DePauw. Aki Ulmer is next up in the spotlight.
Ulmer is a right-handed pitcher from Olympia, Wash. He comes to the Hoosiers from Lassen Community College is Susanville, Calif. The junior played his prep ball at Capital High School.
The son of John and Tomoko Ulmer has two brothers, Kenji (20) and Masato (14). Aki is an East Asian languages & cultures major.
HEAD COACH BOB MORGAN ON ULMER:
"Aki is a good consistent pitcher who throws in the low 80s with a decent breaking ball. He is still trying to adjust to the Division I level. Aki is going to give us more depth on our pitching staff."
ULMER ON CHOOSING IU:
"Indiana is a top academic institution that also excels in athletics. I love the campus, and it was the best fit for me."
