Spotlight on Graeme McFarland
After losing nine letterwinners from last season's squad, the Indiana baseball team welcomes 17 newcomers this season. In the coming weeks, we will feature each IU newcomer leading up to the team's Feb. 22 opener against DePauw. Graeme McFarland is the final Hoosier in the spotlight.
McFarland begins his first full season with the Hoosiers after joining the team in midseason last year. The 6-2, right-handed pitcher made two appearances and did not allow an earned run in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
Before joining the baseball squad in 2004, McFarland was a quarterback on the IU football team. He saw the first action of his career against Ohio State (10/25/03), completing 6-of-6 passes for 54 yards and one touchdown. The Birmingham, Ala., native threw for 152 yards in his only career start at Minnesota (11/1/03).
In addition to playing baseball at Mountain Brook High School, McFarland was an All-Southeast Region selection by Prep Star and a second team all-state choice in football. He played in the Alabama vs. Mississippi All-Star Classic as a senior and was rated the 24th best quarterback by Prep Star coming out of high school.
The son of Carl and Jeanne McFarland has one brother, Nathan Bland and one sister, Molly.
HEAD COACH BOB MORGAN ON MCFARLAND:
"We are hoping Graeme can be one of our top guys on the mound. He possesses a good fastball with good movement. He has not had a lot of experience, so he is learning everyday."
