Big Ten Network Announces Baseball TV Schedule
Feb. 10, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team will have four regular-season games televised on the Big Ten Network, the conference announced today. The Hoosiers' Saturday and Sunday games both at Iowa (April 11 and 12) and at home against Northwestern (May 9 and 10) will be carried live on BTN.
"We're looking forward to the second season of baseball coverage from the Big Ten Network," head coach Tracy Smith said. "I knew it would have a positive effect on our program when the Network launched, but I never thought the impact would be as great as it was in the first year. The Big Ten Network continues to be a huge asset for Indiana Baseball and the Big Ten Conference."
With the televising of the contests, IU announced changes in game times for three of those four games. IU's Saturday and Sunday games at Iowa will be moved to 2:30 p.m. ET (1:30 CT), while the Hoosiers' Saturday affair against NU at Sembower Field will now start at 3 p.m. ET.
The Network will also televise all the games at the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held at Columbus' brand new Huntington Park, May 20-23. All rounds will be carried live by BTN.
"With the network now available to more than 70 million people nationwide, the Big Ten Network is thrilled to give increased national exposure to Big Ten baseball and softball," network president Mark Silverman said. "We know that fans will especially enjoy watching these games in HD."
Combined with the five regular-season games that will be carried live on Hoosier Country 105, eight of IU's conference clashes and one non-conference affair will be broadcast on radio or TV. All of Indiana's games will also have live streaming audio on IUHoosiers.com, provided by Stretch Internet.
Indiana opens the 2009 season at the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge, where they will take on West Virginia, Georgetown and USF. The Hoosiers and Mountaineers kick off the year on Friday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. in St. Petersburg's Progress Energy Park.
