Newcomer Profile - Josh Phegley

Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Tuesday, Feb. 13, is of catcher Josh Phegley. Phegley, who throws and hits righty, will wear number 16 for Indiana in 2007.
Josh Phegley becomes a part of the IU program in 2007 after playing four years for head coach Shawn Turner at Terre Haute North. Phegley was named Indiana's Mr. Baseball by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association in 2006.
Phegley earned his honor after hitting .592 with 13 home runs, 16 doubles and 50 RBIs. He was an all-conference and all-state selection in his senior season, and was named to the Indiana North/South All-Star Team, being named the all-star series MVP. In addition to his prowess at the plate, he also was named Indiana's Defensive Player of the Year.
Phegley helped his American Legion team to a World Series runner-up finish, and was named to the all-tournament team. The Terre Haute native also earned three letters in football at Terre Haute North.
Phegley, who plans to major in sports broadcasting at IU, has one sister, Jennifer, and one brother, John. Jennifer played softball at St. Mary's of the Woods College, while John played baseball at Purdue. The son of John and Joan Phegley was born on Feb. 12, 1988.
