Newcomer Profile - Kipp Schutz

Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Thursday, Feb. 15, is of outfielder Kipp Schutz. Schutz, who throws and hits lefty, will wear number 23 for Indiana in 2007.
Kipp Schutz joins the Hoosiers after playing three years of baseball under Andy Rice at Harrison High School. The Evansville, Ind., native earned three letters in football in addition to his baseball prowess.
Schutz had a monster season in his final year for Harrison, hitting .480 with three home runs, 35 RBIs and a .763 slugging percentage. His 19 doubles were best in the state. His prowess at the plate led to him being named first team all-state and being selected in the 26th round by the Baltimore Orioles.
As a junior, Schutz hit .393 with four homers. He was named all-conference and served as his team's captain. He was also an all-conference selection and team captain for the basketball team.
Schutz, who also played football and tennis at Harrison, has one brother, Jerrod, and one sister, Erin. The son of Chip and Laurie Schutz was born on March 21, 1988, and plans to major in recreational sports management at IU.
