HOOSIERS HAMMER INDIANA WESLEYAN IN HOME OPENER

Indiana pounds out 19 runs on 21 hits in doubleheader

After two days of postponements, Indiana University and Indiana Wesleyan University were finally able to play with the Hoosiers sweeping the Wildcats in an afternoon doubleheader. The Hoosiers cruised in both games winning 11-0 and 8-1. Head Coach Bob Morgan, who used nine different pitchers in the two games, commented, "We're just happy to get out there and play a couple games because the weather has been horrible all week."

In the first game, the Hoosiers struck early in the second inning when Doug DeVore (2-4, 3 RBI) blasted a two-run shot over the right center field fence. Roger Rodeheaver started the inning off with a single and scored on the home run. Indiana crossed the plate eight times in the fifth inning break the game open. Scott Anleitner (2-3, RBI), Sam Incandela (2-2, RBI), and Jason Williams (2-3, RBI) all had singles in the inning while Brandt Childs (1-3, RBI) had a RBI double. Starter Kyle Boyd struck out five batters in three innings to pick up his first win of the season. Boyd, Jason Torres, Tom Willerer, and Fred Graf combined to give up only three hits in the seven inning game.

In the nightcap, Indiana scored eight runs on 10 hits in a game that was called after the top of the sixth inning because of darkness. Pitcher Chris Wilson evened his record at 1-1 by tossing two innings of no-hit baseball. Chad Smith, David Ferris, Zack McClellan, and Greg Schabel came in to give up only two hits in four innings of work. The Hoosiers put the second game away early with three runs in the first and second innings. DH Matt Moser did the damage with a two-run home run in the first inning. Rodeheaver was active again, going 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI. In addition to Rodeheaver, Dan Haegele was 2-2 with 2 RBI and Childs went 2-3 with a RBI.

This weekend, Indiana will travel to Vanderbilt to play the Commodores in a pair of single games. The games will be played Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. EST. The Hoosiers will be in action again at Sembower Field on Tuesday, February 24, when they host IU Southeast at 3 p.m.
