BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With unplayable weather conditions in Indiana and across the Midwest, the Indiana University baseball team will open its 2003 season this weekend in Bradenton, Fla. The Hoosiers were originally going to participate in the Governors Cup, Friday through Sunday, in Evansville, Ind.
Indiana will play four games in four days, Feb. 28 to March 3. The Hoosiers will open with a game against University of Findlay on Friday night at Manatee Community College. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. On Saturday at 10:30 a.m., Indiana will take on Valparaiso at the IMG Academy. On Sunday, IU will battle Holy Cross at 3 p.m at Manatee Community College. The Hoosiers were scheduled to get started last weekend with a three-game series at Morehead State, but a cancellation was forced by heavy snow and wintry weather in the area. IU was also set to play DePauw in Bloomington on Tuesday, but once again, snow led to a postponement.
IU is coming off a season where it compiled a 35-20 record overall and finished fourth in the Big Ten Conference. Head coach Bob Morgan is entering his 20th season as the Hoosiers head coach.
