SUJKA NAMED BIG TEN FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Chris Sujka was named the Big Ten's Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday (Feb. 27), sharing the weekly award with Iowa's Sasha Kuebel. Sujka hit .500 (6-for-12) and slugged .917, combining for an OPS of 1.417 in three games at Tulane. The Oak Forest, Ill., native also drove in four runs, including a three-run homer on Saturday. It marked Sujka's second long-ball of the season; a rookie campaign that has seen him rack up a conference-best 10 RBI through six games.

Sujka becomes the first Hoosier to gather Freshman of the Week recognition since Dustin DeMuth on May 13, 2011. It marked the third such accolade for DeMuth and sixth for Indiana during the 2011 season.

    FIVE-GAME HITTING STREAK
Sujka enters the weekend riding a five-game hitting streak, and has reached base in all six games. During the hitting streak, he is batting .429 with two homeruns, 10 RBI, three doubles and slugging at an .857 clip. The clutch left-fielder has driven in nine runs with two-outs.

    FRESHMAN: HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERE
Forty-seven percent of Indiana's starters through six games have been freshmen (28 of 60; counting pitchers). The Hoosier youth increases even more when including only position players in the batting order (no pitcher/DH), with 54.2% of starts coming from freshmen. In fact, there are no senior position players on the IU roster and just two senior pitchers. Indiana's offensive production has been fueled by rookie Hoosiers:

PERCENTAGE OF OVERALL TEAM PRODUCTION COMING FROM FRESHMEN
    Homeruns: 80% (4 of 5)
    Stolen Bases: 75% (3 of 4)
    Runs Batted In: 69% (18 of 26)
    Runs Scored: 65% (20 of 31)
    Hits: 59% (27 of 46)

    JOHNSON TABBED AS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Junior Micah Johnson was named to Baseball America's preseason Third Team All-America squad. Johnson is the third different Hoosier to earn preseason All-America laurels in the past four seasons, including two-time honoree Alex Dickerson in 2010-11 and Josh Phegley in 2009; and the only Big Ten player to do so in 2012.

MORE HOOSIER LOVE FROM BASEBALL AMERICA
Baseball America also ranked Micah Johnson as the fifth-best pro prospect in the Big Ten Conference. Freshman Sam Travis was recognized in the publication as well, slotted No. 3 in the "Big Ten Newcomers" rankings.

HOOSIERS ON THE BIG TEN NETWORK
The Big Ten Network's spring broadcast schedule was released last week, and at least three Indiana baseball games will be aired nationally on the network.
