Hoosiers Blank Butler, 4-0
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team used solid pitching and a pair of home runs to take a 4-0 victory at Butler on Wednesday. The Hoosiers improved to 4-5 while the Bulldogs fell to 2-3.
Senior leftfielder Kevin Mahar broke the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh. Mahar led off the inning with his second home run in as many days, out of the park in right field.
Senior shortstop Seth Bynum put the Hoosiers on top 4-0 in the eighth with a three-run homer. With one out, junior first baseman Corby Heckman singled into left field, and then advanced to third on junior rightfielder Joe Kemp's base hit to right. Bynum cleared the bases with his first long ball of the season.
Senior Adam Pegg earned the win on the hill for the Hoosiers, evening his record a 1-1. The righthander went seven innings and scattered six hits while recording five strikeouts. Sophomore Troy Ragle relieved Pegg in the eighth and notched his first save of the season. The lefty allowed just one Butler hit, walked one and struck out a pair.
Heckman was 3-for-4 at the plate and hit two doubles. Bynum also finished 3-for-4 and stole a base.
