    INDIANA HEADS TO LOUISVILLE FOR INTERSTATE BATTLE WITH CARDS

    THIS WEEK: After posting a 7-1 record on their Spring Break trip to Florida, the Hoosiers head to Louisville for a Tuesday game with Louisville at Cardinal Stadium. Game time is 3:00pm. Indiana returns home for a Wednesday tilt with Manchester College (3:00pm) and a three game series against Western Michigan, beginning Friday afternoon at 3:00pm.

    THE OPPONENTS: The Cardinals (16-6, 0-3 CUSA) dropped a weekend series to Conference USA rival Houston (5-0, 15-2, 13-11). Louisville entered the series ranked 24th in nation by Collegiate Baseball. Junior C James McAuley leads the team with a .367 average and three home runs. 1B Doug Lorenz is second on the team with a .365 average and has knocked in 20 runs. Junior RHP Brian Bentley leads the Cardinals pitching staff with a 3-1 record and 3.07 ERA in 41 innings pitches. Bentley is second on the team with36 K's. Junior RHP Todd Raithel is Louisville's top reliever with three saves and a team-leading 10 appearances. The Hoosiers did not face Louisville last year but did pick up a 7-0 win in 1997. Manchester comes in at 7-0 after weekend wins over Adrian, Thomas More and Rose-Hulman. The last time the two teams met was in 1987 as IU took a 13-11 decision.

    LAST WEEK: The Hoosiers took care of business in winning seven of eight games during their Spring Break trip to Florida. The only loss came against NAIA powerhouse Nova Southeastern, 3-1. Senior RHP Jason Torres punched out 15 batters on his way to a two hit shutout of Princeton. Indiana also put together 17 scoreless innings from the fourth inning of the Columbia game through the fourth inning of the second meeting with Columbia. The streak included Torres' shutout.

    LOOKING AHEAD: Indiana will host IUPUI next Wednesday before heading to State College to open the Big Ten season against the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Hoosiers and Nittany Lions split last year's four game series at Sembower Field.

    HOOSIER NOTES: At this point last season, Indiana was 12-10 and did not get its 16th win until the 29th of March against Penn State...Senior RHP Jason Torres lowered his already low 1.38 ERA to 0.78 with two solid stints. Opposing batters are hitting .141 against him and he is second on the team with 30 strikeouts. He currently has a string of 18 consecutive scoreless innings...RHP Nick Otte earned wins over Hartford and Columbia to up his record to 4-0 on the season. The sophomore from Tipp City, Ohio leads the Hoosiers with a 0.54 ERA and opposing batters are only hitting .127 against him...Senior CF Jason Williams hit .424 (14-33) during the trip with 6 doubles and 10 RBI. His .444 average leads the team...Junior RF Doug DeVore upped his team-leading home run total to eight with two over the break. He had another taken away during a game vs Iona as the game was called because of darkness. DeVore also knocked in 11 runs during the week...Senior 3B Frank O'Connell hit .393 (13-33) on the trip and drilled two home runs while knocking in ten runs. He also scored nine runs.
