BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Behind an offensive power surge and a 24-hit attack, the Indiana baseball team dispatched Chicago State, 29-5 on Wednesday afternoon. The Hoosiers are now 13-7 on the season, while Chicago State falls to 1-17.

IU pounded out six homers, including a pair by David Hughes. Hughes finished the game 3-for-6 with five RBI and four runs scored. Reggie Watson went 3-for-5 with four runs scored and Ryan Parker added three hits in six at-bats with three RBI and three runs scored.

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom half of the first, the Hoosiers manufactured a run to even the score. Watson led off the frame with a base hit up-the-middle and stole his eighth base of the season to move into scoring position. A ground out advanced Watson to third, and he came home on a two-out single by Kemp.

The Cougars pushed across another run in the top of the second before Indiana responded with a four-run rally in the bottom of the inning. Mahar drew a leadoff walk, and Donley followed with a double to center field. Wargo drove both runners home with a base hit to left field to give IU a 3-2 lead.

Hughes delivered a single to left putting runners on the corner for Watson, who grounded out to second base bringing Wargo home. With Hughes on second, Parker came through with an RBI-single to right field accounting for the final Hoosier run in the inning and giving Indiana a 5-2 advantage.

Once again, Chicago State cut into the IU lead in the top of the third and once again the Hoosiers answered in the bottom of the frame with an eight-run explosion. Indiana plated a pair of runs when Hughes drilled a three-run blast over the left-field fence, his first home run of the season, to push the lead to 10-4.

Kemp delivered a triple to center field bringing Watson home, and Seth Bynum closed out the scoring with a two-run homer.

In the fourth, with the Hoosiers holding a 13-5 lead, Hughes opened a seven-run outburst connecting on his second home run in as many innings with a towering two-run shot to left-center field. Mahar continued the onslaught, crushing a grand slam, his team-leading ninth home run of the season, to make it 20-5.

The Hoosiers continued the attack with a pair of runs in the fifth and a seven-spot in the sixth. A two-run homer by Donley and a three-run homer by Rashard Graves highlighted the scoring. The homer was the second of the season for Donley and was the first of Graves' career.

Additionally, Cody Wargo (2-for-4) drove in three and scored three runs and Joe Kemp (3-for-5) drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Kevin Mahar (1-for-2) had four RBI and three runs scored, and Ryan Donley went 2-for-5 with two RBI and four runs scored.

Matt Saba picked up his fourth victory of the season in relief to improve to 4-0. The freshman did not allow a run and only gave up one hit with two strikeouts in two innings.

Indiana returns to the diamond for a weekend series with Wright State at Sembower Field on Friday-Saturday, March 26-27. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
