DeVore drills ninth homer of season
Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana Baseball team upped its record to 17-2 with a 17-5 drubbing of Manchester College this afternoon at Sembower Field.
Junior RF Doug DeVore went 2-3 with three runs scored and two RBI's while hitting his ninth home run of the year, a two-run shot that gave Indiana a 2-0 first inning lead. Sophomore DH Dan Haegele went 3-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI's as Indiana won its fifth in a row.
Sophomore RHP Nick Otte earned his fifth win with a two inning effort. Otte (5-0) struck out three before giving way to a committee of seven Hoosier pitchers, who all pitched an inning a piece.
After the Hoosiers took the early lead, Manchester (7-1) answered with two of its own. With one out, 1B Trevor Haley singled, advanced to third on Blake Collinsworth's single to right and scored on an error by DeVore. Collinsworth scored on Tory Fuelling's single to center to tie the game.
Indiana put three runs up in the second and third innings to take an 8-2 lead. The Hoosiers put the game away in the fourth with four more runs. LF Blake St. Clair led off with a triple down the right field line. Haegele brought him in with a single to left. With runners on the corners and one out, O'Connell singled to left, scoring DeVore from third. After a wild pitch moved pinch runner Kory Seitz to third and O'connell to second, Seitz scored on another wild pitch and O'Connell advanced to third. After a Jason Williams walk, PH Matt Moser flew out to center, scoring O'Connell from third.
The Hoosiers are back in action Friday at 3:00 p.m. for the opening game of a four game series with the Western Michigan Broncos at Sembower Field.
