IU FALLS TO PENN STATE
Second Game Rained Out
State College, Penn.--The Nittany Lions owned the first game
of the IU/Penn State doubleheader, and the weather took the second.
PSU held the Hoosiers to four runs in a 9-4 victory at Beaver
Field, dropping IU to 17-8, 1-1 in Big Ten play. Thunderstorms
moved into Happy Valley, so the second game will be made up tomorrow
as part of a doubleheader.
Gibran Hamban got IU's offense started with a solo shot to
left in the second. Penn State quickly answered, tallying four
runs in the bottom of the inning. The Nittany Lions scored again
in the third, fourth and fifth innings. IU struck again in the
final inning when Blake St. Clair hit a two run single that scored
Tim McNab and Benji Clause.
Zach McClellan and Nick Otte split the pitching duties, each
throwing three innings. McClellan gave up eight hits and six
runs. His record drops to 2-3. Indiana will finish the four-game
series tomorrow. Dave Ferris and Fred Graf are slated as the
starters for tomorrow's contests. Action will start at 12 p.m.
