Dickerson Earns Big Ten Weekly Honors
March 29, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore left fielder Alex Dickerson (Poway, Calif./Poway) has been named Big Ten co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Dickerson is the second Hoosier to take home weekly honors this year, as freshman Micah Johnson earned Player of the Week laurels on March 15. Dickerson shares this week's award with Illinois' Willie Argo. It is Dickerson's second career weekly honor, as he also earned laurels on April 6, 2009.
Dickerson went 11-for-18 with two home runs and eight RBI to continue his torrid hitting streak, which sits at a league-best 16 games. He has had multiple hits in nine games in a row and has now driven in at least one run in 11 consecutive contests. Dickerson currently leads the league in home runs (10) and RBI (33) and is third in batting average (.426).
Dickerson slugged 1.111 and posted a .632 on-base percentage on the week and hit Indiana's two biggest homers of the week as well. In a tight 4-2 game against Xavier, Dickerson smashed a three-run blast in the fourth inning to break the contest open in a 17-8 win. Against Taylor, Dickerson was the only player to get to starter Chris Howell, and his solo homer in the sixth opened the door for a Hoosier comeback in the seventh inning.
He also had a career-high four hits against Morehead State and drove in the winning run on a fifth-inning single against St. Francis. He also made a brilliant catch going into the bullpen in the win over SFU. Over the last two weeks, Dickerson is hitting .550 with 14 runs, six doubles, four homers and 18 RBI in nine games.
The Hoosiers return to action on Tuesday, when they play host to No. 8 Louisville at Sembower Field. Admission is free to all Hoosier baseball home games, and live audio and statistics are available at IUHoosiers.com.
