April 11, 1999 HOOSIERS COMPLETE FOUR-GAME SWEEP OF PURDUE WITH 10-3 WIN
Bloomington, Ind. --Freshman LF Tim McNab went 2-3 with three runs scored and a home run as Indiana defeated Purdue 10-3 to sweep the season series.
Sophomore LHP David Ferris (3-1) struck out seven in six innings as Indiana (26-6, 5-3) won its fifth straight game. Andy Helmer (2-3) took the loss for Purdue (11-19, 1-7).
Purdue jumped on the board early with two runs in the first. Chris Walker reached on an error by 2B Benji Clause and scored on Daryl Hallada's single to right. Two batters later, Mike Rose brought home Hallada with a single to left to put the Boilers ahead 2-0.
Indiana tied it with two in the second and went ahead for good with five in the fourth. Senior CF Jason Williams led off with a single and advanced to third on McNab's single to left. Williams scored on a Ryan Schade sacrifice fly and two batters later McNab came across the plate on Dan Haegele's single to right. With Benji Clause on third and Haegele on second after a stolen base, junior RF Doug DeVore ripped a two-run triple down the right field line to put IU up 6-2. After a Brandt Childs strike out, 3B Frank O'Connell tripled home DeVore as Indiana never looked back.
Mc Nab hit .700 (7-10) with eight runs scored, six RBI and three home runs for the week. The freshman from Cooper City, Florida also upped his average to .444 on the season.
The Hoosiers are back in action this Friday for a four-game series with Big Ten leading Minnesota (24-7, 7-1 T1st) at Sembower Field.
