April 21, 1999 HOOSIERS DEFEAT MIAMI 16-9
Bloomington, Ind. --The Indiana Baseball team defeated Miami of Ohio 16-9 this afternoon at Sembower Field.
Zack McClellan (4-0) picked up the win for Indiana (28-9) with three strong innings. The sophomore from Toledo is 7-0 lifetime as a Hoosier.
Sophomore LF Blake St. Clair went 2-3 with three runs scored and slammed two home runs as the Hoosiers avenged a 29-6 drubbing at the hands of the Red Hawks (18-18) last season in Oxford.
The Hoosiers jumped out early with three runs in the first inning. With Benji Clause and Dan Haegele aboard, junior RF Doug DeVore singled to right, giving Indiana a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Frank O'Connell homered to left center and the Hoosiers led 3-0.
Miami cut the margin to 3-2 until the Hoosiers exploded for five in the third. Clause led off with a double, advanced to third on Haegele's fly out to center and scored on DeVore's single to center. Senior C Brandt Childs followed with a single and DeVore came around to score on an O'Connell single. With two on and one out, St. Clair homered to center, giving IU an 8-0 lead.
The Hoosiers are back in action this Friday at 3:00 p.m. against Minnesota.
