Hoosiers Blank Taylor, 18-0
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana baseball team shut out Taylor University, 18-0, Wednesday afternoon at Sembower Field in Bloomington. IU is now 26-11 heading into tomorrow's game at Miami-Ohio in Oxford.
Indiana scored in the first, third, fourth, seventh and eighth on its way to the win. Redshirt freshman Ryan Parker and freshman Steven Head both collected three hits for the Hoosiers. Parker also scored four runs and drove in another.
Centerfielder Reggie Watson also crossed home plate a total of four times. Third baseman Nick Evans went 2-for-4 at the plate and had four RBI and leftfielder Chad Coder scored three runs.
IU stole a season-high eight bases, led by rightfielder Kevin Mahar's three steals and two from Coder. Taylor committed 10 errors in the contest and only nine of the Hoosiers' 18 runs were earned.
Freshman Troy Ragle and redshirt freshman Dan Pezley combined to two-hit the Trojans. Ragle earned his first victory on the mound and moved to 1-1 on the season. He walked one batter and struck out six.
Pezley pitched the final four innings and surrendered no walks while striking out one.
Kenny Miller took the loss for Taylor and gave up four hits and six earned runs. Miller issued seven walks and struck out one. Chris Horst pitched the middle 3.1 innings and allowed five hits and five runs, none of them earned. Luke Baeslack worked the eighth inning and scattered three IU hits and gave up four runs, three of them earned.
The Hoosiers will play the Redhawks at 2 p.m. (EST) Wednesday in Oxford.
