Hartong Earns First Big Ten Player of the Week Nod

CHICAGO - Indiana's Brad Hartong (Long Beach, Calif./Cypress College) was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced. Hartong becomes the seventh different IU player to receive a weekly award from the Big Ten this season.
In the Hoosiers four games last week, the C/OF hit .529 (9-of-17) with one home run, 10 RBI, two runs scored and a slugging percentage of .765 to help the Hoosiers go 3-1.
He got the week started off on the right foot with a 3-run home run and a two RBI single - both in the sixth inning - against Ball State as the Hoosiers cruised to the 10-1 win. Then in the series opener at Illinois, he collected two more hits and drove in three runs in a 9-3 IU victory. Game two against the Illini saw Hartong rack up two more hits and a run scored before closing out the series with a 3-for-5 day at the plate and two more RBI.
Prior to the four games this past week, Hartong was hitting .247 with two home runs and 12 RBI on the season.
The Hoosiers are in first place in the Big Ten standings with a full three game lead on Illinois and Nebraska in second place with nine conference games remaining.
Indiana travels to Miami (OH) on Wednesday for a non-conference battle starting at 6:05 p.m. ET before returning home to host in-state rival Purdue for a weekend series.
