BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head Coach Tracy Smith and his staff have added five more future Hoosiers during the second signing period. Jake Kelzer, Christian Morris, Kyle Rasmussen, Brian Wilhite and Kent Williams have each signed on to play for Indiana Baseball starting in the fall of 2012.

JAKE KELZER • RHP/Swimmer • Bloomington, Ind. (Bloomington H.S. South)
Three-sport athlete at Bloomington South High will compete in two varsity sports at Indiana; joining both the baseball and swimming teams. Led the Panther baseball squad to conference, sectional and regional championships in 2010.; and the swimming program to state runner-up finishes in back-to-back seasons (2011-12). Played summer ball for the Indiana Prospects 17U team. In the pool, Kelzer earned High School All-American status in 2011 and 2012. Jake is the son of Roberta and Tom Kelzer.

"You don't see too many dual-sport athletes in today's college athletics," said Smith. "It shows Jake's athleticism and desire to compete at the highest levels. He's going to be a great addition to both the baseball and swimming programs here at IU."

    CHRISTIAN MORRIS • RHP/1B • Williston, Fla. (Williston H.S.)
Morris is the 62nd-ranked player in the state of Florida, and 354th nationally by Perfect Game. He is batting .370 with nine homeruns, 36 RBI and five doubles for the 22-3 Williston High Red Devils. Projected as a two-way player for IU, an injury has forced him off the mound for his senior high school season. Christian is the son of Brenda and Pat Morris.

"Christian is an intriguing sign for us because he was a national recruit early," said Smith. "Because of injury, he fell off a few teams' radars, but we're confident he's going to come back strong and give us good innings on the mound. If he doesn't, we still feel he's a middle-of-the-order-type hitter."

KYLE RASMUSSEN • RHP • Fresno, Calif. (Clovis East H.S.)
Rasmussen is a relief pitcher for Clovis East High, owners of a 17-8 record. Individually, Rasmussen is 2-1 with a dozen strikeouts in 12 innings of work. Kyle is the son of Patty and Rusty Rasmussen.

"Tall, lean, projectable frame for Kyle," said Smith. "He is a strike-thrower and has the ability to really spin a breaking ball. With our strength and conditioning development program, he's going to take off with his velocity and be a guy to help us in the future."

BRIAN WILHITE • SS • St. Viator, Ill. (St. Viator H.S.)
Wilhite knows winning baseball, leading St. Viator High in back-to-back regional championships and a 20-win season as a junior. He batted .321 with 17 RBI and a .416 on-base percentage during that junior campaign. On the basepaths, Wilhite was six-for-seven on stolen base attempts. Brian is the son of Kathy and Jeff Wilhite.

"Brian is a high-quality defensive player," said Smith. "Through time he is going to develop offensively. He'll add some instant competition on the left side of the infield with his defensive abilities."

KENT WILLIAMS • RHP • Noblesville, Ind. (Noblesville H.S.)
Williams is a six-foot-two pitcher selected by the Indiana high school coaches for both the Crossroads Baseball Showcase Series and the Area Code Games tryout. He went 5-3 and rung up 58 strikeouts in 48 innings in 2011. Williams is also considered one of the state's top wide receivers on the gridiron. Kent is the son of Beth and Tracy Williams.

"Kent is a physical right-handed pitcher with an upper-80s fast ball and an effective slider, a good put-away pitch," said Smith. "He's very competitive, comes from one of the most competitive conferences in the state of Indiana.
