Travis Tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week for Third Time
May 7, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman first baseman Sam Travis earned his third Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition on Monday (May 7); marking his fifth overall conference weekly award after also twice being named the Big Ten Player of the Week earlier this season.
Travis slugged .833 over the weekend as Indiana took its fourth Big Ten series of the season and moved into second place of the conference standings. He totaled six hits in the series, including a two-run homerun and a double. His .500 batting average was accompanied by two walks for a .571 on-base percentage. Add that OBP to his bloated slugging number and Travis posted on OPS of 1.404. Travis shined the brightest in Sunday's doubleheader sweep, cranking out five hits, an RBI and scoring four runs. In addition, Travis recorded a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage while playing first base for all 27 innings of the weekend.
