BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Ryan Parker, a sophomore on the Indiana baseball team, has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District V team, the organization announced Thursday. Parker is the designated hitter on the 11-man team.

A native of Hilliard, Ohio, and a graduate of Hilliard Davidson High School, Parker has played in 42 games for the Hoosiers and made 28 starts, primarily as the designated hitter. In 110 at bats, he owns a .255 batting average with 28 hits, including 10 doubles and two home runs, and has five multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games to his credit. Parker led the team with a .441 batting average (26-of-59) as a redshirt freshman in 2003.

Parker has junior academic standing and is majoring in business management at Indiana. Earlier this year, he received IU's Tichenor Award, which is awarded to the male and female with the highest degree of academic excellence.

Parker and the other 10 players on the All-District V team will now move on to the national ballot where they will be candidates for Academic All-American.

This is the second straight season a Hoosier baseball player has made the team. In 2003, former pitcher Jacob Cary was selected.

The Indiana baseball team returns to action this weekend, May 14-16, when it hosts Michigan for a four-game series. Friday's opener is set for a 3 p.m. start. Action continues on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m., and then concludes on Sunday with a single game, also at 1 p.m.
