BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Hoosier catcher Kyle Schwarber was awarded his third Big Ten Freshman of the Week laurel on Monday (May 21). In 14 weeks the award was given out, an IU freshman was selected for the weekly recognition.
Schwarber hit .600 in leading Indiana to a sweep over Ohio State, securing the Hoosiers' first-round bye in the conference tournament.
While catching all 27 innings in the series, Schwarber reached base at a .667 clip, slugged .700, drove in four runs and gunned out a pair of stolen base attempts. His biggest game came when the Hoosiers needed it the most, a 10-8 slugfest on Thursday. In that game, Schwarber went 3-for-3 with four RBI and a walk. In a non-conference contest versus Evansville, Schwarber added two more hits, a stolen base and scored two runs.
HOOSIERS ALL OVER WEEKLY CONFERENCE HONORS
The Big Ten Conference awards a Player, Pitcher and Freshman of the Week each Monday throughout the season. During the 14-week campaign, a conference-best 12 Hoosiers were recognized by the league office. Sam Travis led the way with five such laurels, winning back-to-back Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week accolades (March 26 & April 2) before his third Frosh of the Week selection on May.
