Prospect Camp Full, Next Camp in Sept.
Aug. 9, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head coach Tracy Smith and the Indiana baseball coaching staff's Prospect Camp, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, is now full. Be on the look out for information on the next Prospect Camp, scheduled to take place in Sept.
The camp is open to 2006 graduating seniors only and will be held for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Sembower Field. It is limited to the first 68 applicants (17 players per team) and will feature quality instruction and a pro-style workout and evaluation by the Indiana staff. The cost of the camp is only $100. In case of inclement weather, the make-up date is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 21.
Smith was named head coach of the Hoosiers on June 22 after spending the last nine seasons at Miami (Ohio). Smith amassed a 317-220-1 (.589) career record and a Mid-American Conference regular-season mark of 152-95 (.615). He led the RedHawks to eight straight 30-win seasons, marking only the second time in program history that Miami accomplished that feat, and he finished his career in Oxford third on the all-time wins list.
Over the past five years, Smith mentored 20 different RedHawks who have either been drafted or signed Major League Baseball free agent contracts, including two in 2005. Six players have been drafted in the top-10 rounds of the draft, which includes one second-round pick, two fifth-round selections, one sixth-, one eighth- and one ninth-round pick.
