IU Signee Sam Travis Corrals Accolades

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sam Travis, a 40th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds and incoming IU freshman, picked up Illinois Player of the Year honors from both the Chicago Tribune and Prep Baseball. He posted huge power numbers en route to Providence High School's Class 4A State Runner-up finish.
Travis compiled a .504 batting average, 17 homeruns, 17 doubles, three triples and 75 RBI in 41 games. The six-foot, 195-pounder also tallied 53 runs scored and a 1.023 slugging percentage.
He produced when it matter most. For the season, he raised his average to .542 with runners in scoring position. Travis excelled in postseason play as well, blasting two homeruns and an RBI-double in the semifinals and championship game.
Future Hoosier teammate Chris Sujka is also a top prospect from the state of Illinois, having earned the Northwest Indiana Times's Illinois Male Athlete of the Year after starring on both the diamond and gridiron for Mount Carmel.
