Baseball Announces 2008 Schedule
Sept. 3, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team has released its 2008 schedule, head coach Tracy Smith announced on Monday. The Hoosiers will play 14 games against five different teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2007.
Indiana opens its 2008 slate with a three-game series against perennial Southeastern Conference power LSU from Feb. 22-24 in Baton Rouge, La., as the two teams meet for the first time. The following weekend, the Hoosiers will travel to Clarksville, Tenn., for the Austin Peay Tournament, where they will take on Ball State, Valparaiso and NCAA participant and host Austin Peay.
Following a mid-week game in Terre Haute against Indiana State on March 5, the Hoosiers will embark on an eight-game spring break trip to Fresno, Calif. The Hoosiers will start the week with Saturday and Sunday contests against the Bulldogs before taking on Gonzaga, New Mexico State, Utah and Portland in addition to another contest with FSU in the tourney.
After a non-conference affair with Evansville, the Hoosiers will face IPFW in the 2008 home opener on March 22-23. After a mid-week game against Xavier at Sembower Field, Indiana kicks off conference play with a road trip to face NCAA squad Minnesota in Minneapolis. The Hoosiers wrapped up the 2007 season by knocking off the Golden Gophers in the final two games of the four-game set between the two squads.
Additionally, the Hoosiers will host conference opponents Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Purdue, and will travel to Penn State, Northwestern and Michigan State. IU's final two weekend series will be in Evanston, Ill., to take on the Wildcats and in East Lansing, Mich., to meet the Spartans, respectively. The Hoosiers will not face Ohio State during the 2008 campaign.
Indiana will commence fall practices on Sunday, Sept. 9.
