Benson Earns Third Career Big Ten Player of the Week Honor

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior middle blocker Ashley Benson has been named one of the Big Ten's Co-Players of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday (Sept. 13). This marks the the third Big Ten weekly laurel of Benson's career. She shares the award this time with Minnesota outside Hitter Ashley Wittman.
Benson won tournament Most Valuable Player honors for the third weekend in a row. She led the Hoosiers to four wins on the strength of her .629 hitting percentage and averages of 4.5 kills, 1.6 digs and 1.0 blocks per set. Benson's standout performance of the weekend was against Niagara (picked to win the MAAC), where she finished with 17 kills and an .889 hitting percentage. She also posted double-digit kill efforts against Robert Morris (11) and Colgate (14).
For the season, Benson is swinging at a Big Ten-best .532 clip, 44 percentage points higher than the second highest attack efficiency. The Bloomington, Ind., native is also second in the league with 42 total blocks and fourth in blocks per set (1.42).
