BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The schedule has been announced for the 2010 Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge, the Big Ten Conference and API Sports announced today. The 2010 Challenge, which is scheduled for Feb. 26-28 in Clearwater/St. Petersburg, Fla., will see Indiana take on West Virginia, Villanova and Connecticut.

Indiana opens the Challenge against the same opponent it did in 2009 - West Virginia. IU and WVU will face off at 1 p.m. ET at Clearwater's Jack Russell Memorial Stdaium on Feb. 26. The Mountaineers return a good chunk of their prolific offense from a team that went 37-18 a year ago. West Virginia posted a team batting average of .360 last season, led by returners Dan DiBartolomeo (.439) and Jedd Gyorko (.421).

The Hoosiers will then take on Villanova on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. in St. Petersburg's Progress Energy Park. The Hoosiers have played the Wildcats twice in the history of the two programs, both at a neutral site in 1987. IU bested VU in both affairs, winning 7-2 and 9-8. Villanova, which did not participate in the 2009 Challenge, finished last season 22-28 with a 6-20 mark in conference play.

IU will wrap up the challenge at the Raymond A. Naimoli Complex in St. Petersburg, as one of three games slated to begin at 10 a.m. at the complex. The Hoosiers will face Connecticut in the final matchup of the Challenge. IU and UConn have faced once before, with the Huskies taking an 18-10 game over the Hoosiers' spring trip in 1998. UConn finished the 2009 season 36-24, falling to Louisville in the BIG EAST Championship Game.

The full 2010 schedule will be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com for all the latest on Indiana Baseball.
