BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University baseball program is hosting a professional scout day on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Sembower Field.

In head coach Bob Morgan's tenure at Indiana, 47 players have been drafted by professional teams and five of those players have gone on to play in the Major Leagues (seasons at Indiana indicated in parenthesis): Mickey Morandini (1985-88), Chris Peters (1991-93), Kevin Orie (1991-93), John Wehner (1987) and Barry Jones (1982-84). Two IU players were taken in the first-year player draft this past June. Vasili Spanos was chosen by the Oakland As and current senior Seth Bynum was taken by the Montreal Expos.

The scout day will be similar to a professional baseball tryout. Players will be evaluated based on their performance in a series of tasks. They will be clocked in the 60-yard dash as well as being timed in a run from home plate to first base. In addition, IU players will participate in an intra-squad scrimmage. Scouts representing 15 professional organizations were present at last year's scout day.
