BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team has added Dustin Coffman as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Tracy Smith announced today. Coffman, who is a former student manager for the Hoosiers, assists in the strength training for the Hoosiers in addition to serving as the team's first base coach.

"Dustin has demonstrated his passion and commitment to the IU baseball program the past two years as a student manager," Smith said. "Dustin is a baseball guy with a background in strength training which is an asset to our team."

Coffman served one year as a student manager for the Hoosiers, helping the players and coaching staff during practices and games in addition to performing additional duties off the field. He also spent two years as a volunteer with Josh Eidson in the IU Athletics strength and conditioning department prior to joining the Indiana Baseball family.

Coffman used his background in strength training to help the Hoosiers improve their strength and conditioning. In addition to assisting the strength and conditioning coaches during regular workouts, he helped the Hoosier coaching staff by overseeing all conditioning workouts last year.

Prior to coming to IU, Coffman spent two years as an outfielder at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Mich. In high school, he played four years at South Bend Clay, and was named the 2003 Northern Indiana Player of the Year and played in the 2004 North/South All-Star Game. He also played in the 2002 Senior League World Series.

Coffman graduated from IU in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. The native of Granger, Ind., is currently pursuing his master's degree in kinesiology from Indiana.
