BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With fall baseball practice winding to a close, the annual Cream & Crimson World Series is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 6. The best-of-five intrasquad series will feature guest managers for each of the first three games, with the final two to be managed by the Hoosier coaching staff. All games will be played at Sembower Field.

"The Cream & Crimson World Series is the ultimate way for us to finish up our fall season," head coach Tracy Smith said. "We enjoy having having guest managers from the university and our community come in and coach the teams. It gives our kids a chance to meet them, and for them to see what our players do as athletes. It is a learning experience for both parties. That said, we expect that the Series will be filled with some very competitive battles between the two teams."

The World Series kicks off with a pair of power brokers from the Kelley School of Business doing battle at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Senior Lecturer of Management and MBA Core Coordinator Keith Dayton will manage one of the squads, while Chair of the MBA Program Jim Wahlen will lead the other team in the series-opening game.

In game two of the series, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 3:30, it will be the students versus the administration. The baseball beat writers for the Indiana Daily Student, Zach Osterman and Ryan Gregg, will take on chancellor Ken Gros Louis and IU CFO Neil Theobald. Ken and Neil are both lifelong baseball fans who closely follow the Oakland Athletics. Ken, a pitcher for Columbia University while an undergraduate, looks to Billy Beane and Connie Mack as inspiration for managing.

In game three, there will be a battle between some of America's finest as the Army squares off against the Marines on Thursday at 3:15. Sergeant Pelletier will lead the Army squad, while Staff Sergeant Cranford leads the Marine squad. Teams for the series will be drafted by members of the baseball staff the weekend prior to the Series.

The culmination of the Cream & Crimson World Series will come over the weekend from Friday, Oct. 10-Sunday, Oct. 12. Friday will feature the Hoosier Caddy Golf Classic, set to start at 1:30 at the IU Golf Course, as IU Baseball friends and family gather to support the team. On Saturday, game four of the Series is slated for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch. Sunday kicks off with the annual baseball banquet at 9:30 a.m. with the final game of the Series to follow at 1 p.m.
