Fall Practice Concludes with Cream and Crimson Series
Oct. 10, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team will cap off its fall practice with a five-game intersquad series this week at Sembower Field. The Cream and Crimson Series will begin Tuesday, Oct. 10, while the other four games will take place Wednesday, Oct. 11 and Friday-Sunday, 13-15.
Head coach Tracy Smith sees it as an opportunity to replicate a real game situation.
"We have played against each other a lot this fall, but when we throw on some uniforms, put some emphasis on it, and there are winners and losers, it is as close to a live game as possible," Smith said. "This series comes down to a culmination of the entire fall and all the hard work we have put in, and it gives parents and fans a chance to come out and enjoy Indiana baseball."
The coaching staff selected teams through a draft process, and the two teams will remain intact throughout the week. Smith hopes this will build a competitive edge for his squad as fall practice ends, and he is also looking forward to playing in front of a crowd again.
"The final few games will coincide with other IU athletic events going on this weekend," Smith said. "We want to get some fans and parents to check us out and see where are our program is going. It gives fans a chance to really feel like a part of this team."
The schedule for the series is as follows:
