Baseball Wraps Up Fall Practices

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team concluded its fall practice season this weekend with the Cream team taking the intersquad series three games to two. Sophomore Josh Phegley led the Cream with a pair of homeruns, while classmate Matt Bashore pitched brilliantly and garnered a pair of wins.
"Overall we had a strong fall practice season," head coach Tracy Smith said. "It was nice to see a good number of our players step up, particularly Josh [Phegley] and Matt [Bashore]."
Phegley hit .425 with his two home runs and 17 RBIs for the entire fall scrimmage schedule. Fellow sophomore Brian Lambert looked strong in the leadoff spot, hitting .458 with six triples, 19 runs and 16 RBIs. Walk-on pitcher Anthony Cera was strong in relief, throwing 6 1/3 scoreless innings, while Bashore allowed just two earned runs in 22 2/3 innings of work.
The final weekend of practice also featured the Hoosier Caddy Golf Classic, which had over 120 participants on Friday, Oct. 12. Indiana also hosted its annual awards banquet which honored members of the 2007 team and introduced friends and family to the 2008 squad.
Indiana returns 22 letterwinners, seven starting position players and nine pitchers from the 2007 team.
