Cream vs. Crimson Fall Recap
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team split its squad and faced off in its annual Cream vs. Crimson series. This year, the Crimson team swept the three-game series from the Cream. Here is a recap of the series:
In the opening game, the Crimson squad used a furious rally in the final two innings to secure an 8-7 victory. The Crimson tallied three runs in the bottom of the eight and ninth innings for the victory.
Senior Joe Kemp was the hitting star, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles and three runs scored. Reggie Watson, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, added a pair of hits (2-for-3) and plated three runs.
On the mound, freshman Tony Tevis picked up the victory, allowing one earned run in the final three innings. He limited the Cream squad to four hits while walking zero.
Junior Josh Lewis started for the Cream and gave up two runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
Offensively for the Cream contingent, freshman Josh Verts went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and junior Jay Brant finished the day 3-for-5. Sophomore Bobby Segal led the way with two RBI.
The Crimson team continued to roll in game two, jumping out to a 6-2 lead after two innings en route to a 10-3 win in seven innings (the game was the first of a doubleheader).
Junior Adam Poole started for the Crimson and limited the Cream squad to one earned run on four hits in four innings pitched. Dan Peezley, a senior from Marion, Ohio, breezed through three innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and one walk in addition to three strikeouts.
Kemp continued the hit parade with three more hits in four at-bats, hitting his first home run of the fall while contributing a game-high four RBI. Watson continued to spark the offense in the leadoff spot, going 2-for-5 with two more runs scored. Junior Ryan Parker added a pair of RBI (2-for-3).
Sophomore Rashard Graves (2-for-4) and freshman Kevin Leininger (2-for-3) delivered two hits, apiece.
Junior Zach Boswell and Verts each drove in one run for the Cream squad.
The Crimson team continued the onslaught in the final game of the seires, putting up double digits on the scoreboard for the second straight game, sweeping the Cream, 10-5.
Freshmen Billy Craig and Jordan Baughman each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, following three innings from sophomore Byron Banks. Banks held the Cream squad to just one earned run while striking out three.
The Cream jumped ahead with two in the first and one in the top of the second, but the Crimson responded with one in the bottom half of the first and four in the bottom of the second to take a 5-3 lead. The Cream bounced back with two more runs in the third, however, the Crimson squad put it away with four more in the bottom half of the third, making it 9-5.
Freshman Clint Crosier was a bright spot on the mound for the Cream, throwing two scoreless innings with a pair of punchouts.
Arden McWiliams, a freshman from Shaker Heights, Ohio, went 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored for the Cream, while freshman Cody Mullen and junior Zach Boswell each went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Watson finished the final game with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs and an RBI. Freshman David Trager delivered a 2-for-4 game with a double and two runs scored, while freshman Tyler Cox contributed a double, two RBI and two runs.
