IU Baseball Staff to Host Holiday Academy
Nov. 7, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head Coach Tracy Smith and the Indiana baseball staff will host the 2007 Indiana Baseball Holiday Academy from Thursday, Dec. 27-Sunday, Dec. 30. The camp, which has sessions available for youths ages 6-18, will be held in Mellencamp Pavilion, IU Baseball's indoor practice facility.
Children from ages 6-13 have two camps directed at them. The Fundamental Skills Camp will run from Thursday-Saturday, going from 9 a.m.-noon each day. This camp teaches skill development and baseball fundamentals in all aspects of the game. Additionally, the Academy offers personalized instruction from 8-9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, as participants will have the opportunity to work in small groups of 3-4 with an instructor.
The Academy has two different camps for the 12-18 age group. On Thursday and Friday, hitting school will run from 1-2:30 p.m., providing advanced instruction on form and technique. Likewise, pitching/catching school will pick up immediately after, running from 2:30-4 on both days. Additionally, the Academy will host a College Prospect Clinic for 17- and 18-year olds from 1-6 p.m. on Saturday.
For coaches that wish to have their teams go through instruction, there will be team training from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Instructors will put teams through a college-style practice that focuses on skill development and maximizing talent. Couple this with a Game On! session following the team training to watch the team play an instructional, umpired game against another team of the same age/skill level with input from the coaches as the game is played. There will also be Game On! sessions on Sunday at various times between 8 a.m. and 9:15 p.m.
