BOCA CHICA, D.R. -
The Indiana University baseball team is spending its Thanksgiving break in the Dominican Republic, and head coach Tracy Smith will be checking in daily with IUHoosiers.com. Here is the third entry into the Dominican Daily Diary...
HEAD COACH Tracy Smith
"Another good day of baseball. We loaded up at 8:15am and set out for the Royals Complex for team batting practice. After BP, half the team stayed and the other half loaded up for a short bus trip to the Rangers Complex. All was going well until our bus broke down about a half mile from the Rangers' field and we had to walk the rest of the way.
We won the game at the Rangers Complex, 10-4, behind strong pitching from Will Coursen-Carr, Nick Moody, and Aaron Slegers. Schwarber had a good day at the plate, highlighted by a bomb to right-center field immediately after he told me he was going to hit it there ... no kidding. Casey Smith had a couple hits and 3 RBI, and Sam Travis broke put of his Dominican slump with his first hit.
We had a close one at the Royals Complex. Brian Korte and Ryan Halstead pitche well for us, especially Korte. It was great to see. Hitting star was Ricky Alfonso as he had four hits. Tight game ... bottom of the ninth they had runners at first and third, and one out. We were leading 7-6 at the time. Sully Stadler got the ground ball double play to end the game for the Hoosiers.
All-in-all good day for us. Boys celebrated with an afternoon at the pool. Be sure to watch the video."
