Spotlight on Billy Craig
After losing nine letterwinners from last season's squad, the Indiana baseball team welcomes 17 newcomers this season. In the coming weeks we will feature each IU newcomer leading up to the team's Feb. 22 opener against DePauw. Billy Craig is up next in the spotlight.
Craig is a 6-3, right-handed pitcher from Monroeville, Ind. A four-year letterwinner for head coach Dean Lehrman, Cox pitched and played right field at Heritage High School. He earned all-conference honors at right field in 2003, sporting a .436 batting average to go with four home runs and six doubles. Cox also competed in football for four years and in basketball for two years. The son of Bill and Becky Craig plans to study biology. Craig has one brother, Andrew.
HEAD COACH BOB MORGAN ON CRAIG:
"Billy has tremendous arm strength. He can play in the outfield and also has a big upside as a pitcher. His best days are ahead of him, and he is only going to get better as he becomes more polished at the next level."
CRAIG ON CHOOSING IU:
"I chose Indiana because I felt comfortable on campus and the school has a great academic reputation."
