COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman Cody Zeller recorded 16 points and six rebounds as the No. 7/8 Indiana men's basketball team fell at No. 5/5 Ohio State, 80-63, on Sunday, Jan. 15.
Zeller sank 7-of-9 from the field and added a steal in the effort. Junior Christian Watford scored 13 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field, including three 3-pointers. He added four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Junior Jordan Hulls netted 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field, including a 3, and added five rebounds, five assists and one steal.
The Buckeyes (16-3, 4-2) jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the first eight minutes of the first half and maintained a lead over the Hoosiers (15-3, 3-3)through the first half.
"I think everyone had to make sure they understand their part in these games. You have to know your role and know your job...it's about the mental and physical aggression, and being strong with the basketball. It's all of those things."
Indiana came out of the break and improved on both ends of the floor, cutting Ohio State's 26-point lead to 16, 71-55, with 3:27 to play. However, the Buckeyes held on for the 80-63 win.
The Hoosiers shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field, 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from 3 and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free throw line on the night. Ohio State won the battle on the boards, 33-28.
Indiana returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18 when it travels to Nebraska for a 7 p.m. ET game on the BTN. Wednesday's game will also air on the IU Radio Network.
