    Indiana head coach Kelvin Sampson

On the effort of the team:
"For 32 minutes, I thought we were great on defense. We made some substitutions, lost our intensity and Iowa's kids didn't stop playing."

On the play of D.J. White:
"I thought our whole team was really, really good in most places...(Adam) Haluska and (Tyler) Smith are good. It's not like they are going to stop playing. Steve's a smart coach. He didn't take them out when they were down 21, he left them in there. But, D.J., he is learning to play both ends now. He's really becoming a dependable defensive rebounder. Saturday against Penn State, he had six offensive rebounds, and that's the best that he had. We keep challenging D.J...Another thing he's doing better is running better. He's transitioning. Earl (Calloway) did a good job in the second half, and D.J. is becoming part of the play. I also think that the conditioning we did early season is helping. D.J. is getting better. He's a much better player today than a month ago and that's encouraging to us."

On where the team is at right now:
"I think our team is getting better. When I think about the game tonight, I am going to think about how great we played the first half against Haluska, what a tremendous job we did the first 10 minutes of the second half. I don't worry about the last eight minutes. I worry about stuff like that in November. This late in the year, you worry about winning the game and moving on. We are 4-1 in the Big Ten, we have a day off tomorrow and we will get ready for Connecticut on Saturday."

    On Armon Bassett's buzzer shot:
"I would tend to think our defense gave us a lot more momentum than that, but it didn't hurt. Our defense was good the entire first half. Our defense was really good the first 12 minutes of the second half. We just really got into them and traded some offense with defense. For 32 minutes, we were really good tonight. For the last eight minutes, Iowa just outplayed us."

On improving from the free-throw line:
We've done nothing different. They are just relaxed and more comfortable. You usually shoot better as you go down the stretch. We are good free-throw shooters. I think there is a familiarity about our program now that I don't think our kids had earlier in November and December. I think they are a lot more comfortable with each other and when they got to the line, they are focusing on the free throw vs. anything other distractions."

On D.J. White's series at the 10 minute mark:
"It's the energy. His energy level was really high. We have worked on different things and over the course of the season you have to be multifaceted...We are cutting and moving better when the ball goes inside. D.J. is just playing with a lot of confidence. I think it was the Michigan State game when they didn't double him. He scored the ball really well. I think Purdue double teamed him, and he passed the ball really well. We have enough guys that can score that D.J. doesn't have to score 20 for us to win...We have enough guys that can score around D.J., and you say that you have to have D.J. to score, well D.J is just now starting to score big, and we have been winning and it makes us a better team."

    Junior forward D.J. White

    On his performance:
"I felt good tonight. Our point guards, Armon (Bassett) and Earl (Calloway) did a good job of utilizing the pick and roll. They definitely did a good job getting me the ball."

On finishing inside and running the floor:
"I feel like I am finishing under the basket more. One thing early in the year that coach was on me about was running up and down the floor. I think in the last couple of games I am doing that a little better. Tonight when they fouled me I just put it in the basket."

On if the team is done improving:
"Never. We have a long Big Ten season ahead of us. We still have a lot to accomplish. We are not going to stop working and coach isn't going to stop getting on us about working. We have a lot we can improve on too."

    Iowa Head Coach Steve Alford

    Opening Statement:
"We had inconsistency tonight with our offense and defense, one half good and the other half bad. I thought the difference was point guard play. Calloway did a really nice job of leading them offensively and defensively and to not get that on our end was frustrating. I thought our start was good, but it seemed like 10-15 minutes before we scored. To have that kind of drought, it's hard to come back with a win."

    On the game:
"It was a tough game and you have to give Indiana a lot of credit. They are playing at a high level and defensively they take you out of a lot of things. We knew that coming in and that's why getting that first entry pass is a key. We really just had a hard time doing that in the first half. The second half it kind of opened up some things for us and we kind of put Tyler (Smith) and Justin (Johnson) back there some to get the shot up."

    On his teams play tonight:
"I thought Seth (Gorney) gave us some good minutes, 12 and 5 points in 25 minutes are good minutes. It is hard to praise too many of my bigs because D.J. (White) gets 23 and 12. He is playing at a high level and maybe as good as any big man in our league. He is playing with a lot of confidence and they are doing a good job of getting him the ball."

    On his team:
"We are searching. It's a very difficult game to play if you don't have that certain individual that can get you into things. Again, I don't want to take anything away from Indiana because I thought their defense was terrific and they took us out of a lot of things."

On being back at Assembly Hall:
"It is always special being in this building. I had a lot of fun in this building and I grew up watching all of Coach Knight's games. I've been coming here since third grade. I know this place very well and I had a blast under Coach Knight. It's fun coming here and seeing the '87 banner because I know that that team is very special."

    On winning on the road:
"It won't be easy, but I don't know if it is especially difficult. We haven't had success, but we are competing. I don't know if getting closer is the word, but we shot the ball a little bit better today, we rebounded better, but you can have runs. We gave up two really big runs tonight that if you take them out, you have a shot. We have to learn to take those runs away."
