Hoosiers Fall to Iowa, 91-77

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Christian Watford scored a career-high 30 points, but it wasn't enough as the Indiana men's basketball team fell at Iowa, 91-77.
Watford sank 10-of-20 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and was perfect at the free throw making 7-of-7. He also grabbed eight boards and dished out three assists. Derek Elston also tallied a career-high with 12 rebounds, to go along with 10 points for his first career double-double. Matt Roth scored 14 points off the bench and added three assists.
The Hoosiers (10-10, 1-6) led 6-5 early in the first half until a 15-2 Hawkeye run gave Iowa (8-11, 1-6) a 20-8 lead with 10:03 to go in the first stanza. A jumper by Watford at the 9:47 mark stopped the Iowa run and was the first of 14-straight points from Watford that brought Indiana within seven, 29-22, with 6:13 on the clock. However, Iowa was able to maintain at least a seven-point advantage before taking a 43-33 lead into the break.
Watford kept it going in the second half, putting IU on the board first with a jumper at the 19:16 mark, but the Hawkeyes weren't going away. Iowa put together a 12-2 run to increase its lead to 55-37 with 15:11 to go in the game. A tip-in from Will Sheehey, followed by a 3-pointer from Roth stopped the run to bring the Hoosiers within 13, 55-42, with 14:22 on the clock. However, Iowa never let up and the Hoosiers fell 91-77.
The Hoosiers shot 37.1 percent (26-of-70) from the field and 85 percent (17-of-20) from the free throw line. Iowa just won the battle on the boards, 39-36.
Indiana returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 27, when it plays host to Illinois at 9 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
