Indiana Falls To No. 2 Ohio State, 82-61

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Verdell Jones III tallied 14 points, four rebounds and three assists in an 82-61 loss at No. 2/3 Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011. Christian Watford added 12 points and four rebounds in the effort.
The Hoosiers (12-17, 3-13) held tight with the Buckeyes (27-2, 14-2) in the early minutes, trading the lead in the first six minutes. However, Ohio State used a 8-0 run to take a 16-8 lead with 9:50 to go in the first half. A jumper from Derek Elston cut OSU's lead to six, but the Buckeyes went on to outscore the Hoosiers, 22-13, to take a 38-23 lead into the break.
Ohio State opened the second half with a 3-pointer from William Buford, which helped it build up a 24-point lead, 51-27, with 16:17 to go. The Buckeyes maintained at least a 19-point lead en route to the 82-61 victory.
IU dominated Ohio State on the boards for most of the game before falling just short, 35-32. Jones III shot 4-of-10 from the field, including a pair of treys, and sank 4-of-5 from the free throw line for his 14 points. He added four rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes. Watford made 3-of-9 from the field, with two 3-pointers, and 4-of-6 from the free throw line for his 12 points. He also recorded four rebounds in 21 minutes.
The Hoosiers return to action on Thursday, March 3 when they play host to Wisconsin at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN for Senior Day in Assembly Hall.
