Indiana Falls to Purdue
March 3, 2010
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.Purdue's E'Twaun Moore (21), Chris Kramer (18) and JaJuan Johnson (14) combined for 53 points to lead #6 Purdue to a 74-55 win over Indiana, Wednesday night at Mackey Arena.
"We were not able to match their physicality or their toughness," said IU Coach Tom Crean. "They really hurt us off the dribble and every time we were able to make a run at them, they had a response."
The Hoosiers were able to keep the game close the first six minutes and trailed 13-8 after a three-pointer from Christian Watford with 14:52 to go. The Hoosiers trailed by as many as 17 in the first half, but freshman Derek Elston had 11 first half points to lead IU off the bench. A basket by junior Jeremiah Rivers late in the half cut the halftime deficit to 38-25.
In the second half, the Hoosiers trimmed the lead to 48-36 on a triple by freshman Jordan Hulls with 14:12 to go. And that would be as close as they came.
IU won the battle of the boards, 36-28, but the Boilermakers grabbed the edge at the free throw line making 21 of 31 shots, to IU's four of five attempts.
IU was led by sophomore Verdell Jones III who had 15 points and Elston had 13 and added seven boards.
