BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Cody Zeller tallied a team-best 17 points and senior Christian Watford netted 12 points, however it wasn't enough as the No. 2/2 Indiana men's basketball team fell to No. 14/13 Ohio State, 67-58, in Assembly Hall on Tuesday, March 5.
The Hoosiers (25-5, 13-4) and Buckeyes (22-7, 12-5) traded leads throughout the first half with Ohio State taking a 28-25 lead into the break. Indiana opened the second stanza scoring six straight field goals, led off by a 3-pointer from junior Victor Oladipo, to take a 41-38 lead with 13:55 to go. The Buckeyes used a 21-9 run to take a 61-50 lead with 3:15 on the clock. A 3-pointer from Watford followed by a tip-in basketball from Zeller and a 3 from senior Jordan Hulls, cut Ohio State's lead to six, 64-58, with 00:37 remaining. However, the Buckeyes held on for the 67-58 win.
Zeller made 5-of-9 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line for his 17 points, to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Watford tallied five rebounds and a block to go along with his 12 points. Hulls scored 8 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field, including a pair of 3's. Oladipo registered seven points, six rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Freshman Kevin (Yogi) Ferrell scored seven points and added two rebounds and two assists.
Indiana ended the evening honoring its senior class - Derek Elston, Jordan Hulls and Christian Watford, along with managers Tim Dather and Cory Elder. The Hoosiers also celebrated winning a share of their 21st Big Ten Championship with a trophy presentation.
IU returns to action on Sunday, March 10 with its regular-season finale at No. 7/8 Michigan. Sunday's game is set to tip-off at 4 p.m. ET on CBS.
