BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Will Sheehey's 18 points led the Indiana men's basketball team to a 90-72 exhibition win over the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Assembly Hall. Cody Zeller tallied 16 points and eight rebounds, while Jordan Hulls recorded 14 points and five assists in the win.
The Hoosiers opened the first half holding the Greyhounds scoreless for four-plus minutes to build up a 16-7 at the 10:56 mark. UIndy answered with a pair of jumpers from Joe Daniels and Adrian Moss to cut IU's lead to seven, 18-11, with 9:24 to go in the first stanza. A layup from Verdell Jones III at the 8:48 mark sparked a 13-4 Hoosier run that increased IU's advantage to 31-16, with 7:10 on the clock. The Hoosiers maintained at least an eight-point edge for the remainder of the half, heading into the break leading 50-35.
Victor Oladipo opened halftime with a put back layup off his own miss to increase the Indiana lead to 17, 52-35. The Hoosiers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half en route to a 90-72 win.
Sheehey sank 8-of-11 from the field, including a 3-pointer, for his 18 points, and added three rebounds and a block. Zeller made 5-of-7 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line for his 16 points. He added eight boards, six on the defensive glass in 30 minutes. Hulls was perfect on the night - making 3-of-3 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers, and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. He also dished out five assists and added in a steal. Jones III also had an impressive game with six points, six assists and one steal. Oladipo tallied nine points, four rebounds and one assist.
The Hoosiers shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the field and outrebounded UIndy, 36-31. IU scored 13 points off of 13 Greyhound turnovers and committed just six miscues in the game.
Indiana opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11, when it plays host to Stony Brook at 7 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network in Assembly Hall.
