The Hoosiers starting five consisted of junior guard Jeremiah Rivers, sophomore guard Verdell Jones III, freshman guard Maurice Creek and freshman forward Christian Watford. The only change from Friday's game came with senior Tijan Jobe getting the start at center for sophomore Tom Pritchard.
Tonight marked the second-ever meeting between Indiana University and Saint Joseph's College. IU moved to 2-0 vs. the Pumas. The Hoosiers won an exhibition meeting between the two teams, 93-65, in 2005.
This is the sixth campaign the Hoosiers have opened the season with exhibition games against NCAA Division II or III schools. Indiana improved to 11-0 all-time in those games.
Indiana finished the exhibition season with a 2-0 record and will open the 2009-10 regular season when it hosts Howard at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13.
The Hoosiers began to pull away in the first half thanks to a 20-10 run over a seven-minute span to take the lead from 23-16 to 43-26.
The Hoosiers were 5-for-10 on three-point field goals in the game, with four different players connecting from long range. Matt Roth went 2-for-2 and Jordan Hulls went 1-for-2. Maurice Creek and Daniel Moore also hit treys in the game.
Indiana held a distinct advantage at the free throw line in the game, taking 46 charity tosses to 19 for the Pumas. Indiana connected on 32 free throws in the game while Saint Joseph's made 14.
The Hoosiers had nine blocks in the game, led by three from freshman Bawa Muniru, who was making his first appearance of the exhibition season after getting cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center last week. Last year, the single-game high was seven at Minnesota on Feb. 10, 2009.
Eight players scored at least six points in the game, led by Maurice Creek's 16.
Derek Elston led Indiana in the rebounding category with eight while Creek was next with seven. Elston also added eight points.
Christian Watford followed up his double-double effort against Grace last week with 13 points and four rebounds tonight.
Jeremiah Rivers was 6-for-10 from the floor in the game and finished with 15 points in addition to five assists and four rebounds against just one turnover.
Verdell Jones III had 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
Freshman guard Jordan Hulls made all four of his free throws and a three-point field goal for his seven points.
Tom Pritchard scored four points and six rebounds in his 20 minutes of action.
Matt Roth chipped in with six points in eight minutes of play.
In addition to his three blocks, Bawa Muniru has seven points and two rebounds in eight minutes.
Freshman Bobby Capobianco grabbed four rebounds in seven minutes.
Devan Dumes added a rebound and two assists in his first nine minutes of play in the exhibition season after returning from a knee injury.
Tijan Jobe was in the starting lineup and finished with a rebound and a blocked shot.
