Hoosiers Close Out Exhibition Season With 111-62 Win Over UNC Pembroke

Bloomington, Indiana - Freshman Eric Gordon scored 24 points, all in the first half, and fellow frosh Brandon McGee added 18, all in the second half to lead #9 Indiana to a 111-62 win over UNC Pembroke, Kelvin Sampson's alma mater in the Hoosiers' final exhibition game of the season. Overall, six IU players scored in double figures in front of 17,122 fans at Assembly Hall, and Coach Sampson was able to get nine players at least nine minutes of playing time.
Playing against a zone for the most part of the first half, Gordon and sophomore Armon Bassett helped the hosts to a 52-35 advantage at the break. Gordon, a preseason All-American, hit eight of 10 field goals, including all six of his three-point field goal attempts and Bassett added 15 points and made three of five long distance attempts. He also had four steals.
In the second half, the Hoosiers used a 34-8 run to put the game away and made an incredible 13 shots in a row. McGee, who hit four of six triples, finished with 18 points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes of second half action, while junior Jamarcus Ellis had 15 points and eight assists.
For the game, IU made 18 of 30 triples. The Assembly Hall record during the regular season was 17 set last season against Penn State.
Senior D.J. White, another Hoosiers preseason All-American, added 10 point and three blocks and freshman Jordan Crawford had 11 points and six assists. Fellow freshman Eli Holman also had eight points in 10 minutes of second half action.
Including the Hoosiers Labor Day three-game excursion in the Bahamas, IU averaged 111.2 points in its five preseason contests. In those five games, the Hoosiers shot 57.4% from the field, outrebounded opponents 48.8 to 28.8 per game and forced 29.9 turnovers per game.
The Hoosiers will start the regular season on Monday at home against Chattanooga. Tip-off is at 7:06 p.m. with the game being televised on the Big Ten Network.
