Indiana vs. Southern Illinois Notes

After Southern Illinois held the lead for the first 11 minutes of the game, a jumper by D.J. White at the 8:58 mark of the first half gave the Hoosiers the lead. Southern Illinois would come back to tie the score at 20-20, but were never able to regain the lead.
The last time Indiana beat a ranked opponent on the road was January 13, 2002 against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa was ranked 13th in the AP Top 25 poll at the time. Southern Illinois was ranked 22nd in the Coaches Poll but was not ranked in the AP Poll this week.
Indiana had nine blocks against the Salukis, a season-high. The last time IU posted nine blocks was Jan. 10, 2007, at home against Purdue (an 85-58 Indiana win). Jamarcus Ellis and Eric Gordon each set career highs with three blocks apiece.
Indiana held the Salukis to 37 percent from the floor for the game, the third time they have held an opponent under 40 percent this season (Longwood and Illinois State).
D.J. White posted his third straight double-double of the season and the 13th of his career with his 12 rebound effort on Saturday. It also marks the third consecutive game that White has reached double figures in rebounds. He is averaging 14.7 points and 12.0 rebounds in his last three games.
Jamarcus Ellis recorded is second double-double of the season on Saturday, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Southern Illinois' was 1-for-14 from beyond the arc against IU. The last time a team made just one 3-point field goal against the Hoosiers was Jan. 7, 2007, when Michigan State went 1-8 in Assembly Hall.
Eric Gordon played 40 minutes for the second consecutive game. He was taken out of the lineup with 7:09 remaining in the first half against Xavier and did not play the rest of the half. Gordon started the second half and has played every minute since then, a total of 100 minutes and counting.
Gordon has also led the Hoosiers in scoring in each of the first seven games and is averaging 26.6 points per game after his 22-point performance on Saturday against the Salukis.
Bassett also had four assists and one steal to go along with his 12 points.
Mike White chipped in with four points and three rebounds in 21 minutes of action in his second game of the season.
Lance Stemler had three points, two boards and a steal in 26 minutes.
DeAndre Thomas had two points, three rebounds and an assist in eight minutes.
Coach Kelvin Sampson won the 482nd game in his 25-year career.
IU improved to 5-0 when leading at the half this year and 19-3 overall during Sampson's tenure.
SIU was the third opponent to shoot less than 40 percent against the Hoosiers joining Illinois State (37.0) and Longwood (25.8).
IU is 44-12 against the Missouri Valley and 2-0 this season. The Hoosiers also improved to 5-1 all-time against SIU.
